I purchased a '97 Hunter 26 this past summer. It has been a great first-time boat; however, this is one item I have not been able to raise - the companionway hatch. There is a wooden 'stopper' that keeps the hatch cover from sliding out, but I have not found how to tilt the opening up. Can anyone help with a solution?

Push sliding hatch part fully forward - towards mast - then push up on hatch and it will raise on a sliding arm on each side. The part of hatch closest to mast will not raise unless the sliding portion is fully retracted. This all is assuming you have the mast raised or off the boat. Have a 1995 H-26 and assume your 97 would work the same way. My boat is curreintly under 3 feet of snow so can't send photos. Mike T.

Watch the side edges of the slider while moving it forward. As it nears fully open you'll be able to see the front corners come free from the upper guides. At this point try lifting the front of the slider. The entire hatch, solid portion with slider under it, should lift up.
