My 8.0c has the plexiglass hatch and I was wondering if there are any hatches that are suitable replacements. I like fiberglass. And I am not concerned about the light that's provided by the current hatch.

Thanks in advance

I have an 8.0 B and our hatch was broken we were unable to find a replacement and ended up repairing the original hatch. The only thing we could find were local companies to custom make hatch for a pretty penny. If you find a replacement let me know

I was thinking more like adapting a fiberglass hatch like the ones used on the smaller catalinas. Another option is to fabricate it out of plywood and fiberglass

You could use the hatch that is there and fiberglass over it on the top and back sides. That would give you a very strong top then. You would loose the light thow.

My research led me to find out that polyester resin would stick on the plexiglas. That epoxy resin would.

any suggestions

Marine ply main body with a nice teak boarder to take the milling for the sliders. Epoxy sealed and varnished. That would be sweet. Maybe kerf cuts filled with a nice light contrasting wood to get it artsy and salty. One could even inset a bit of lexan for a skylight. Or if one could manage the clearance with the front for the hatchway, put a solar Nicro vent in it.

Cost my boats PO more than he liked to remember to have a new plexi hatch fabbed for my 9.2A. He had to build a custom jig so they could put it in their oven to get the bend to take and then they had to machine it. Starting to craze a little already and its less than 5 years old (just on the edges). I am making a protective sunbrella cover for it.

The hatch on the 8.0 c is, thankfully, table flat.
