Companionway Hatch Leaks

I have an 84 catalina 30. I noticed fresh water gathering in the icebox and under the stove after a rain storm. It appears to be leaking in under the bottom slat of the companionway - water seems to run down the tracks and gather at the bottom. Rather than drain into the cockpit, some of it flows into the cabin and runs behind the ladder, dripping onto the quarterberth, and onto the galley counter, flowing into the ice box and under the stove. It is quite a bit of water, and weatherstripping at the bottom does not seem to help much. This seems to be a design problem and I wonder if anyone has found a good fix for it.

I had the same problem. Make sure the joint between the vertical track and the bottom board is sealed/chalked on the outside and inside the track. There should be a half round piece on the forward edge of the bottom rail, which keeps the water from wicking in......
