I wanted to build some teak swinging doors to replace the slats for when I am dockside. Has anyone done this? I am not Jesus when it comes to carpentry. I have priced buying them, but it's pretty pricey. Help if you can.

seen it done

My friend built some out of Marine Ply and used hinges that allow them to be lifted off easily. I think he just used the sliders for a pattern on cardboard first and then cut the wood. Works great. I'm planning on doing the same.

Built Doors for C27

It took me a fair amount of time to build the doors. I started with a solid piece of stranded board to make a template (the angle was different on each side). I then built the prototype out of cheap pine as I envisioned the production model. I then constructed the doors with teak. I finished the pieces with epoxy followed with high uv varnish. Lessons learnd: Teak is not horribly strong wood. I would be benefical to have a chop saw, table saw, router table. Acquire the right fastening tools and long drill bits. I secured one side with glue the other with scrws and the other with screws to remove the plexiglass at a later time.

Roll up door

I like aplastic sheet with 3/4" wood stained like my teak. Its like haveing no door at all letslight in keeps rain and cold out .rolls up to store and you can put a small lock on it to keep out the honest people. I dont use the boards unless im going home for the week.I looked at the doors but they take up alot of space in the cockpit. They come off but then you are fighting with them.

got some

I considered building my own doors too, but found that my carpentry skills and tools were woefully inadequate for this particular task. I bought a set from Crusing Concepts for my 1986-30 about 3 years ago and couldn't be happier. They may seem expensive, but they are really worth the price. The fit is great and I use them all the time. The boards are held in reserve for severe storms, but I haven't used them since I put in the doors.
