Can someone point me to a site to purchase custom companionway doors? I think Sailnet or Westmarine used to have them but I can't find them now. Thanks in advance.

Robert: They have them right here at the Sailboatowners.com store. They are more like furniture than doors. They are all custom made for your boat.

Robert, We have doors on our 95 H26 and

they are great. Our doors both will lift off their hinge pins and you also can remove the door frame itself if you want the total opening available. This is all a very easy lift out process and we do remove them in the summer. It is very nice in the colder weather to be able to go out or in and simply open/close the doors. The one thing I would advise you to look for in door shopping would be to find doors that do not require a upper door cross bar. This might not be possible. What I am talking about is a removeable wood bar that spans the door opening and is mounted just above the doors and just below the hatchway sliding top. To have an unrestricted entryway into the cabin we must undo and remove this bar when we first board the boat. It is simple and done with 2 wingnuts in less than 30 seconds but still a pain. Once this is removed we never reinstall it until leaving the boat to go home. The doors work without it in place but are not lockable. If you do not have a companionway top slider then this does not apply. The doors are the most important comfort item after sternrail seats. Ray S/V Speedy

I make them out of StarBoard Poly

I just finished a pair of doors made out of King Starboard Poly teak for a customer who owns a H340. The Poly is great due to the fact that they are maintaince free, weather proof and will not stain or rot. They are lift-off/swingable doors with a removable plexi glass window and a replaceable attached one way see-through screen (UV and heat protection). The down side of the doors are that they vey, very expensive and difficult for me to make, therefore it is not worth me trying to market them on a limited production. They are custom made per boat per order. No 2 boats are alike even though they came out of the same mold. I will be posting photos of the Poly doors (uninstalled) tomorrow if Phil will permit me. I also make the same doors out of teak. However, I do it "ONLY" locally and "WILL NOT" compete with this web site! PLEASE NOT ASK ME TO BUILD FOR YOU! I have photo's on this site of a pair of teak doors on my ex-H310 so you can see what they look like on a Hunter sailboat. I have seen the doors offered on this site and they are of very fine quality and well worth the price. If you were to by a pair of doors from anybody, I would have a custom cabinet maker install them for you with out a doubt!!! I have made 9 pair of these doors and to get a propper weather tight fit requires a great deal of skill and time. It took me over six hours to install the doors on my ex-H310 and the doors had to go back to my shop twice for rework for a proper fit. By the way, I am a custom high end retail store fixture, furniture/cabinet maker and have been doing such for the past 25 years. Trust me, it is not easy to install these doors! Good luck, Steve s/v NOETA (P323)
