Companion!!!

I have just bought a Catalina 27 I am wondering if there is a common problem with the companionway hatch. I guess more specific the railboards. There seems to be a lot of space for them to move about. If this is common what kind of fix is there. Do I need to move the railboards over?

More than likely your hatchboards are the wrong size.

We also just bought a 27, and the boat came with a very large, and very heavy 5/8 inch thick piece of starboard. we cut it into two pieces to reduce the weight somewhat.

Get some pictures posted up on here, and we can better advise you of what the issue might be. Get some closeups of the gaps too.

I see what you are talking about. I am looking at the top side. The guiderails for the companionway hatch. The sliding portion.

It will be better to remove the sliding hatch and re-fiberglass the sliding tabs so that they fit tighter into the wooden rails. There is not a lot of space to move the rails closer together, without the screw poking out the side of the wood rail.

yeah! I fly a King Air 200 at a pretty much tandem only DZ in Titusville FL.
She's a hot rod!

Phill as in Major Dad? If it is the same guy I will be sure to say hi when I see him next. The season is just about to get going. He is married now. When I make my way down it is usually for the holiday boogie.
