A friend of mine has some on his Ericson, and they are wonderful. Bit spendy, though.
One of these days when I get "a round tuit" I will make some in cored frp for our boat.

I have bought companionway doors from this site from CruisingConcepts, located on Orcus Island. He sends doors all over the world and his work is exemplar. I looked at Zarcor doors on a boat near mine and they are not as well done as the CruisingConcept doors. I've been to Mike's workshop and all his saws are computer controlled and when you have his doors, there are no screw holes to be seen.
But here is a point I never hear about other doors--the companionway (cruising concepts) doors on my last boat was something the new owners wanted and I believe that these doors on my present boat will also be a selling feature.

We ordered Zarcor doors at the Annapolis boat show a couple of years ago and had a bad experience trying to get the doors to fit our Hunter 356 companionway. They provided instructions and a video on how to measure the companionway and a paper template to trace the stock hatch boards. The door they shipped was over an inch too tall and the taper was not right. After much work trying to shape the door with a rasp without success, they asked me to ship it back to them with more measurements. They cut too much off the top and the sides and the door can't be secured. The hinges are flimsy and provide no support for the top of the doors at the center closure tab. We used them once and were very disappointed. I finally took them off the boat.
I made my own. I made them out of teak with lexan that can be replaced with screens. They can easily be removed. The only problem I have had is the teak is a little weak. If made new ones I would make them out of white board.

I have had nothing but poor service from Zarcor and I haven't even bought anything yet!
They have promised to send me measurement information for some shutters for my hunter which they have in stock so I can see if they fit.
They also promised to send me over the info for the doors and some other bits I wanted.
Now after a huge period of me politely asking for updates they have failed to respond to my emails.
Disgusted in all honesty with them and as a result I will not recommend nor purchase anything from them.
I'm glad I found this thread, Les thank you for your comparison of the quality I will drop over to cruisingconcepts and have a chat with them about some doors.
