Not enough!

I live in Phoenix, boats in San Diego. I try to get over there 1x per month in the winter. However I do spend alot of time there in the summer, considering its so damn hot here in Phx.

Longing for Spring

I have my boat stored in a marina in Portsmouth, RI, (about 15 miles from home) and I usually try to get to her every 2-3 weeks. We recently had a sizable blizzard and I made the trip just to make sure that my new Canvas Shop cover is doing its job and protecting my 331(it did, very nicely). Even when there is not a storm, I visit the Bon Vue just to look her over and make sure that everything is as it should be. Spring is not far away, and I can't wait until she is in the water again. Perhaps it is time to retire and move to a state where I can sail all year long......

Next time- "Winter's Dream"

SEA TOY is about 75 miles from my home. I try to get physically really visit a minimum of every two weeks. Fortunately, this winter has been mild. Of course, the daydreaming gets me sailing almost daily in my mind. If I ever get another boat, the name should be Winter's Dream

GUILT?

Visit my boat? Just look out my bedroom window to see my Catalina 22 sitting on the trailer in a corner of the back yard, under a big tarp, by the gate that leads to the street. Ask me to go and I can be hitched up and on my way to the launch ramp in short time. What I really like in the winter is to open up the garage door and pull out my old Lido 14 for a day of one design racing on the bay. Should I feel guilty cause I don't get any pretty snow?

Come Again Soon

I love to take a ceramic heater with me to the boat, hook it up inside, have some coffee and a sandwich and read the newspaper there on a cold winter day. While there, I check to make sure all is well with the boat, make any adjustments to tarps that may be needed, and generally have an enjoyable experience. I often think that there is no other place I'd rather be. "The worst day I've ever had on my boat was better than the best day I've ever had in an office...."

So much boat, so little time...

I tend to be compulsive when it comes to repairing and refitting things, so I drive the 35 mins. down to the boat every weekend, often on Saturday and Sunday, even when it's so cold that I can't really do anything productive in the way of caulking or painting. At least this year I've organized myself a little better--I've taken home all the wood bits that need varnishing or cutting so that that can be done in my relatively dry basement under controlled conditions. The poor folks in the neighborhood of the boatyard must be wondering about the guy with the the flashlight attached to his head running around in the dark on Saturday nights in January...

Usually twice a week

Well - with all this snow, I can't even GET to my boat! But I still drive down about twice a week just to see if she's still there. I keep thinking that - if I don't head for warmer climes in this kind of weather, SHE might! Bill on STARGAZER

Every day.............

She located right next to my driveway. I find myself in the boat almost every day.. We also just went thru two very sizable snow storms with winds at 60 to 70 mph and my cover held up quit well with the snow shedding right off the cover.

I try to ...

...get to the boat in the winter whenever I can, but mostly about once a month or so. It's a long ride to the boat and I wish it were closer so that I could get there more often ... and do all those things I've been making lists for over the winter.

I have the fortune...

My boat is indoor storage--away from the elements. I went last week to visit and take down the shrouds for replacement. Definitely makes me miss it parked in the driveway during the Summer. Bryan

Drive time

"Freedom" our First 47.7 is a 2.25 hour drive from Anchorage, our home. I monitor a local Seward web cam daily on the Net and make a trip down and back to check on the boat every 2-3 weeks, weather depending. She fends fine on her own.

Winter Visit

I have been to where we have Catkin (Catalina 22) drydocked twice so far this winter. We put the mast down in November and prepped her for the winter weather. Can't wait to get her ready for the water again in March or April!

Winter Visits :)

I tend to visit the boatyard about 2 times in a month over the hardest part of winter. March will get me down there more frequently to get into my projects. Boat is about 1.5 hours away from home. Stored inside a temporary building. If you look in the cockpit you will see one of my first projects for this spring. Re install a new fueltank.

GREAT ESCAPE

MY BOAT IS KEPT AT MY INLAWS BECAUSE THEY LIVE ON THE LAKE AND OFFER ME FREE MORAGE. THE BEST PART IS WHENEVER THERE IS A FAMILY EVENT OR HOLIDAY I HAVE SOMEWERE TO GO WHEN THINGS GET A LITTLE BOREING OR HEATED.I GET ALONG WITH MY FATHER INLAW REAL GOOD AND QUIT OFTEN HE'LL JOIN ME AND THE TWO OF US WILL JUST TAKE OFF FOR AN HOUR OR TWO AND THEN COME BACK MORE TOLERANT. ALSO ITS NICE TO KNOW IF SOMETHING LOOKS WRONG WITH THE BOAT I WILL GET A PHONE CALL DAY OR NIGHT. ITS ALSO VERY CONVIENIENT BECAUSE THEY LIVE ABOUT TEN MILES FROM MY HOUSE SO ITS NOTHING TO GO AND DO SMALL PROJECTS ON IT AFTER WORK OR WEEKENDS.

doesn't everybody sail in the winter?

I try to sail a minimum of once a month in winter but sometimes the ice is too much to deal with. Yesterday, though a little cool, was an excelllent day out there. Another plus is the fact that I am the only nut on the river except for the the fire boat that steamed out of the washington chanel and sout on the potomac. I get to see my 2 boats 2 or 3 times a week and try to take the little Tanzer 22 out because I do not need to winterize her. Like everyone else though, I welcome spring and warm weather and long afternoons lazing down the river and back

Lonely without our boat!

We check on our boat almost every week. We just want to make sure everything is OK. Sometimes we just go below and hang out. We keep a small heater onboard and the boat is always cozy. Actually, we really miss being on the boat. Hate to leave it sitting lonely for the whole winter.

VISIT...AND SAILING TOO

I must admit that owning a boat that you cannot sail all year must be a drag. My boat in Dana Point Harbor is about 5 minutes from my house. In the winter it gets dark too early to day sail during the week unit about March, and them we sail past sundown if the wind holds. We try and get out every weekend we can...got to bundle up though, cause the wind chill can get down to about 55 to 60 degrees.
