The combing teak steps on my 33 is cracked and pretty worn with no groves left in the top surface and all bung plugs removed. Before I fabricate new ones from scratch (or use nu-teak or dek-king), are there new stock pieces out there somewhere that I can buy? How much?

If it were me I would go to plastic. Just buy the lumber. It is very easy to work and will outlast you and the boat. No more maintenance. This is where I buy mine: http://www.plasteak.com/ .

Ed S has a good idea there... Also the artificial "teak" might not be as slippery (when wet) as the varnished wood combing steps are. Mine are like ice. Ed H

I am all in favour of plastic where possible so long as it looks good. I can leave the natural team for now until I can get some plasteak to work with. I'll need to cover two areas 6" x 44" each.

Ed, I hear ya about how slick varnished/cetoled teak can be. If I were to finish it that way, I would consider clear non-skid strips for steps. That is what I will be putting on my companion way ladder steps now that they have 6 coats of Polyurathane on them.
