Columbia River, Portland, OR

Hey Everyone,

First time poster on a forum. I'm interested in finding out more information about sailing. My buddies and I live not to far from the Columbia River in Portland OR. We recently moved out from NY and Love the change of scenery. Anyways, We've looked at a couple cheap small sailboats to fix up, but are wondering where on the water could we keep our boat? I've seen buoys setup on the Columbia river, do people rent those? Can you drop your own? We are total noobs so any information or direction helps.

Portland sailing

I haven't sailed on the Columbia (yet) but I do know there are a bunch of marinas in the neighborhood of the airport. McCuddy's has at least 2 or 3 close in to Portland, either on the Columbia or not too far away on the Willamette River or Multnomah Channel (i think).

If you're talking trailerable sailboats there are at least two ramps on Marine Drive on the Portland side and maybe one or two on the Vancouver side.
