I'am trying to find a Companionway for my boat. I'm pretty sure it was made out of wood. Any info would help. Thanks John

John, Could you posibly mean companion

way steps? The companion way is kinda sorta built into the boat and usually doesn't get lost.

slider boards

I think you mean companionway slider boards? I've taken a pattern to plastic shops in the past, like Tap Plastics, or Clear cut plastics, made from Lexan or Plexi. If you want them wood, you'll have to find a carpenter or shipwright; or maybe try: cruisingconcepts.com

You want the hatch! ;) You're gonna have

to have one made if you can't find one from another boat.

ComeMonday, Go to the Yahoo Columbia Site, and ask. Someone will have the dimensions and will gladly share them with you.I can't figure out what boat you have though. Is it an 8.3, or a 28? The address is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/columbiasailingyachts

8.3 meter widebody

Hi Larry, It's a 8.3 meter widebody. Thanks for the link. I'll give it a try. Also I'm looking for all kinds of interior parts if you know of any. Thanks John

John, If the tracks are still there then take

the dimensions off there. Ian Nickelson's Designer's Notebook has some excellant guidelines. I had to make a new hatch and took it as the opportunity to redesign the hatch. If the tracks are missing then the notebook will be very helpful. Ross

Hatch

Hi Ross, The tracks are still there but I'm not sure how high the cover was aor the shape. I just aquired the boat and it has a piece of 3/4" plywwod covering the opening. Thanks again John. Did you have to rebuild the cockpit seat covers as well??

I rebuilt the entire boat. Doesn't matter what the

old hatch looked like. Make the new one the way you want it to look. Mine has a rounded top that sheds water and is strong enough to dance on. Has a flap that combines a handle for pulling it closed and covers the top of the door to keep the rain out and allows locking through a large bronze staple.

Ross is right.

John, The hatch is flat, but Ross is right. Build it any way you want it, as long as it fits beneath the turtle cover..My 8.7 is flat, with a cutout, and covered with a sheet of lexan. There probably aren't huge numbers of Columbia original covers around, so get artistic.
