Strengthening the C45/C43
I own a C43 which has the same hull as the C45 I believe. The main change that I would/will make is to reinforce the chainplates where they end at the deck level. I assume the C45 is the same:-The chainplates are just that, plates bolted through the deck. My concern is that this would try to pull the deck and hull apart in rough weather. The solution looks to be quite simple but perhaps labour intensive: Add brackets to the underside of the present chainplates and run turnbuckles down to a strong mounting point below. This could include bolting right through the hull I suppose. I would also change to a cutter rig with reinforcement to the inner forestay as above and running back stays. But. There are lots of C45s out in the world and they had to get there somehow!
