I recently purchased a 1988 Catalina 22 and am in the process of cleaning and renewing the boat. My question is where can I find a new replacement cooler that is used for the step into the cabin? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm not sure, Don, Ken, or Phil may know this better but I THOUGHT it was just a Coleman 48 qt. cooler in there. Not?

ok if you just want a cooler to fit the slot yah coleman makes one and there are others that are around.

BUT

I thought you were looking for a duplicate of the original that had the inlay in the top for the wood step for going in and out of the boat.

If that's the case then no they don't make them anymore and they are super rare. If you find one you have really found something least one that's intact. They must have not been made very good since they aren't found that often.

Cooler

Hmmm...Looks like I had better clean up the one I have. The old lid is full of water and the colors are faded. I was thinking that just replacing the cooler would be easiest. Has anyone tried buying a new cooler and swapping the lids?

our boat we don't have that cooler there anymore we just put in a nice wooden step and carry a cooler to the boat.

Although I've thought of cutting a hole next to the sink to fit a small cooler and hooking up a drain line to the sink drain so that it can drain out the water from ice straight out that but really haven't made up my mind if I think it's worth it.

Who knew...I didn't as the C22 I just bought has the original and it's in mint condition.

If I needed one, I'd just buy the blue Coleman and epoxy a nice teak or mahogany step on the top

Mine is in good shape but I was thinking if it wasn't.I have one of those stainless coolers that's also 48 quart and you can get a new teak cover.It's a much better cooler kinda ties in with the pole support both stainless.The old cooler is the only plastic around.Much better IMO then a broken up plastic piece of junk in there.If you do this measure everything to make sure it works.

I got a new Coleman and transferred the top (after cleaning and refinishing it) to it. That got me on a tear to refinish ALL the interior wood. Not ashamed to let people inside. ;-}

For whatever reason only the Coleman fits, lid will collapse in time. Coleman did make a 52 quart, just a 48 but with a heavier lid. It is of course higher but in time one gets use to the height, I found mine at a Ace hardware, it's now working on five years and holding up well.... I think I've either measured or bought near every cooler out there, so far I've never found another that will fit.

You can buy the step pad from CD, they really like it though.....

I was in Sports Authority today (totally unrelated to sailing but heck I was there) and they have the blue Coleman 48 quart cooler. It was cheap like $30...

Ditto on Sports Authority, and Dick's Sorting Goods for the exact replacement cooler. I'm looking at a couple other models to replace ours, but I'll have to make a slight modification to the cooler location to accept a better insulated cooler.
