Saw that Pep Boys has a Coleman 2000 which is a clear knock off of the Honda EU2000. (yes, was in the store and put my hands on it.) Price was $699, which is comparable to the Honda 1000. Anyone use one or know more info? Coleman says it's exclusive to Pep Boys and they don't have any info...huh? From what I read on the box, the specs were close to the same as Honda. I didn't write them down because I planned to research it online. So here I am....

Coleman

Have not seen the Coleman 2000 watt unit, but I had a Coleman 1850 before Katrina got it. Had two complaints with the Coleman. First it was pretty heavy for it's size, but biggest complaint was it was very loud. I have heard the little Honda's and I can assure you, there is no comparison in noise. The Hondas are very quiet. The Coleman was easy to start, and very dependable, but check out the noise level before you buy.

I haven't seen a Coleman unit you refer to, but I have seen other Colemans and they were all very loud, generally used for construction purposes, not something you want hammering away on your foredeck for a couple of hours a day, and not something the guy anchored/moored near you wants, either.

This one is different..

from those other Colemans. This is not the lawnmower version. It's just like like the EU2000, plastic, think it was 59dB which is the same as the EU2000.

I did a Google search on Coleman 2000...

And reviews are that the Coleman is a bit loud. Plus, I found cheaper prices.

kipor 2000

go to ebay and search for kipor 2000 and 3000, probably same. pretty sure they all are made in china... however, in my search, unable to find parts for kipor, and honda may not sell you the part, even if it would fit.... might ask for your serial#.

honda eu's have come down in price

during the past year. i was at a northern tool store recently and if i'm not mistaken the price of the eu2000 has come down about $200. personally i would spend the extra money and go with the honda, they have a good reputation, and good support. northern tool does warranty work on the honda generators, maybe you could call them and talk to someone in their service department who would know if the coleman and the honda are clones. northerntool.com or 800-533-5545 will get some local info. eu1000 50cc 120v/1000w 12v,8A recoil 32 lbs 1.8hp eu2000 96cc 120v/2000w 12v,8A recoil 51 lbs 2.5hp

This is one item where you would not

want to skimp money. The performance, reliability, parts and service availability, sturdy package, waterproofing, quietness and ease of operation of a Honda has no rival at its price. We have a 2000eu and it gets banged around with no effect on its hard plastic case, it also gets left out to run in the rain and don't miss a beat. It is quiet and runs like a charm. For a couple of hundred dollars I would not risk using anything else. When you use something frequently and hard it pays to buy the best. Saves money and agravation in the long run. If you use it sporadically then it may be worth going with the imitation.

Run it and check the noise level.

I have a Yamaha 1000IS and it works great for me. Quiet. Quieter than any Honda or Coleman including the knockoffs. This is a real consideration if you ever want to run it where other boats are nearby Small. It fits in my anchor locker. Light. Weighs only 28 lbs and carrys like a briefcase Tough. Has a hard plastic case. Is the tough rubberized type of plastic. Price. Comparable to a Honda in price. Not the cheapest out there but you get what you pay for

Yep, it's pretty scary..

Spent quite a while yesterday getting through to Coleman's help desk. They didn't have any info either. Seems that it takes their system "several months" or more to update with all Coleman's new products. Tech guy agreed that it's some brand/licensing deal using Coleman's name. I'm going to go back and look at the docs in the box itself, because now I'm just plain curious. Coleman is selling stuff they don't even know about. Does not say much for the name brand. BTW, Northern Tool hasn't dropped their price in the past several years. Just re-confirmed it at $999.99. You can def beat that with other dealers who will ship free. But, nice to know that NT services what they sell. I did not know that. NT is about 5 miles from the parent's house and I'm a regular there.
