wind stopper fleece
The most important addition to my stay-warm wardrobe in the past few years is wind stopper fleece. I have an anorak with a full hood, and it's great! I originally borrowed (stole) my husband's when we went snow shoeing in the Rockies in February. I then bought my own, and I wear it for both sailing AND riding with my husband in his 75 mph bass boat in temps in the 30s. Wind does NOT go through it. It's fantastic. Not sure how fashionable it is, but it is definitely warm.I also enjoy Cuddl Duds underwear as a base layer. Very soft.Obviously, whatever you wear, you have to find a way to stay dry. My personal choice is Columbia Gore Tex.Good luck!
