Cold Machine Electrical Module

The COLD MACHINE ELECTRICAL MODULE location and position. I am sure when these units are manufactured on the "bench", your access to the fuse and wiring is no problem. Getting at it in the limited space of a lazzaret is another thing altogether. The way the electrical module is installed in my unit is; all the wires and fuse location are on the bottom of the module, which is not more than a 1/4 inch off the base plate. It is almost impossible to pull the fuse without removing all the wires which are in front of it. I bet the desginer of this assembly never had to work on the unit in a lazzaret. I have 2 of these units on board. I pray my other unit will not fail. My suggestion is to turn the module 180 degrees so the fuse and all the wires face upward at the time of manufacture. This gives us a chance to see what we are working on without standing on our heads in the lazzaret. I will be turning mine when I replace my module. I have not yet been able to replace my electrical module as I have not yet recovered from the pretzel position I had to assume when removing it. Thanx for your consideration to this problem.

Design

All of the people that are involved with the design of the ColdMachine and SuperColdMachine units are very much aware of the need to make the units serviceable in the tight confines of a boat. For this reason we try to locate all serviceable items in a convenient location. Unfortunately we are not the designers of the electronic module and how it mounts to the compressor. This is done by the manufacturer, Danfoss. Our new designs, built since January 2000, have a terminal strip to make the connections much easier and a fuse holder that is mounted in the front for easy access. We have also include an LED to give "blink" codes telling the user of a potential problem. Thank you for your input on the design of our systems. Best regards, Phil Williams

Lou, try this first

There is a lead from the module to the compressor. Before mounting the module upside down (180 degrees), please consider remote mounting it on a bulkhead (if possible) and allowing the wires to come in from the bottom. This will help ensure that there is no water drip running down the wiring into the module.
