Cold Machine - Adler/Barbour

I have an Adler/Barbour Cold Machine on my Hunter 340. This worked OK until a couple of months ago when my AC power went down at the marina and my batteries went flat. Ever since then, my cold machine will not cool down. The diagnostic LED flashes three times which is an indication that the system is short cycling. The 'cure' for this is to turn it off and try again. This does not work. My emails to the Waeco/Adler Barbour site have indicated that the problem could be that the control module needs to be unplugged and re-plugged as the contacts might not be making correctly. This does not work. The next suggestion that Waeco have is to replace the electronic control unit but before doing this (with no real guarantee that this will remedy the problem), I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this problem and how did you solve it.Steve Cook

Steve:Many times the unit will short cycle like that if there is not enough power to turn it on. It takes a lot more AMPS to start the unit than it does to run it. If your batteries were drained, maybe they were also damaged, or, they just don't have enough juice to get the unit started.Good luck..... Jeff

Get a voltmeter

Can you start your engine? More than once?Disconnect the shore power and turn on some stuff. Do other high-load items work OK? Using a voltmeter, measure the battery voltage as the fridge short cycles. If it is oscillating more than a half-volt or so as the compressor switches on and off, you need to replace your batteries.
