I am planning to build a cockpit table. I would like to hear what you made and what material you used. Thanks for your help.

How I did it

HI, Hunter28.5 here. MAterials needed: 1. 2' x 3' piece of finished/glued poplar 1" thick 2. 3' wood dowel - 1" thick 3. 1 - 1/4" double-threaded screw (1 end is sharp, the other takes a nut) 4. Epoxy-based glue 5. 1 small 1/4" thick piece of wood that is 1" x 1" 6. 2 plastic rail-mounting brackets (West MArine) 7. Teak stain & Varnish Directions: 1. Cut the poplar wood to size (I routed the edges) 2. Posision where you'll want the table leg and drill a shallow hole in the bottom of the table to accecpt the nut (DOn't drill all the way thru!). 3. Drive the 1/4" screw into the end of the dowel. 4. Put the nut in the pre-drilled hole(seal with epoxy) and then drill out the small 1/4" wood piece to accept the screw and act as increased protection for the nut. 5. Mount the plastic brackets on the edge of the table spaced to fit the pedestal. 6. Measure for the correct height of the table leg. (put a rubber capon the bottom of the leg.) 7. Once it's all done, spaced correctly, etc. take it all apart and sand it, then apply the teak stain, a couple of coats of varnish and Voila!, you've got a great looking cockpit table. We've had ours for 5 years, looks great and we get lots of comliments! 2.

Bought it

Too many good alternatives available from the manufacturers. I went with the Star-Board variety. Never needs varnish
