Our previous boat was a 1994 Hunter 26 - now we have a 1999 Hunter 260. We love the wheel steering of the 260 - but one thing we truly miss from the H-26 was the cockpit table which was discontinued in the H-260 series.

Have any 260 owners constructed their own cockpit tables - presumably mounted off of the Edson steering pedestal - or - has everyone simply purchased a ready made table from Edson?

Seems like it would not be too difficult to construct a table that mounts to the pedestal and folds away when not being used.

We bought a small plastic folding deck table from a department store for eight bucks. It has sizzor style folding legs and straddles the heeling brace in the cockpit floor. We store it in the hanging locker when not in use. Works great for us.

Edson table

I bit the bullet and bought the guard and table from Edson, expensive but does a good job. It stores right on the guard when not in use and is always ready to go. Edson do sell just the hardware if you want to make your own table. Our mainsheet was moved forward on the boom because of the bimini, otherwise that would have been a problem.

Bob has a banquet table and the cleanest 260 I've seen;). Edson makes nice accessories. Our pedestal also has a guard but as bob said, the main sheet limits us to a comparative TV tray sized table. I found a star-board bait cutting tray from a marine store and tweaked until it hinged down from the guard out of the way. We use it occasionally but usually eat below.

The removable folding table idea has merit for versatility on the beach or on-board. Civilized beach dinners require lounge chairs, little drink umbrellas and a small folding table under a palm tree....

Our leeetle cockpit table. The block on the pedestal was glued on with a dab of 5200. the brace is faux wood pvc from the depot.

The board in the photo..... we were enroute from Sarasota to the Tortugas (a solid 140mi offshore each way via ft myers) with the 260 rudders sordid reputation I whipped up a secondary emergency rudder from a 2x10. I've since cut it down to fit in the port side locker and faired it out to a nicer foil shape......or I could just use it as a picnic table or surf board;)

Thanks much for the response. I sailed to the Tortugas from Key West on a chartered 40.5 a few years ago. Interesting sights. Hope your weather was good. I have a 23.5 and don't think I'd be too fond of a trip like that with my boat.
