Has anyone install speakers in the cockpit? Where did you install them and do they effect the compass on the pedestal?

Stephen, we had two cockpit speakers mounted...

on each stern cockpit locker, about 25 inches from the compass, on our H28 with no ill effects. Terry

H 34 ok

Stephen, I had a Hunter 34 with speakers in the lockers on each side of the cockpit with no apparent affect on the compass.

Cockpit speakers location and safety.

Any opinions on putting speakers in the lockers in my 33.5? In the event of a knockdown water could get in. The lockers aren't exactly water tight with the lines and cables that go throught them, but would this make a difference? Mark

An opinion.

Our Hunters are so not ready for a knockdown that speakers can hardly make a difference. Unless you have extensively modified your boat those two 4" holes will not be noticed were you to turtle. I mounted mine in the coaming a little above and forward of the stern seats. I wanted the tunes up where I could enjoy them, not down by my feet. My speakers are marine type, there is no fabric cone that can collapse and let a lot of water through. It is also possible to eliminate any chance of water through the speaker holes. Glass in a heavy bowl shaped fixture behind the new hole. Then seal the small hole for the wire. You can even make the "bowl" with a mold, some cloth, and West System epoxy.

Speaker location on 33.5

Unfortunately there are very few locations that are accessible on the 33.5. The locker is an easy and obvious location but the sound will be less than ideal. I can't see a lot of options though.
