nashuasteve, assuming that you are using a typical 4 channel receiver (front/rear and left/right) to drive the speakers, you can use the fader control on the head unit to select between two 'zones', without any additional switch. For example, wire the cockpit speakers up as left and right REAR and wire the cabin speakers as left and right FRONT. Then, to play music only in the cabin, adjust the fader to 100% front. 100% rear would play only in the cockpit. I plan on adding a pair of speakers in the salon and will wire it up exactly this way.

Wow; Someone who thinks the way I do.
I have an LCD HD TV mounted on the bulkhead between the Saloon and the Head. My marina has a great WIFI router, So I purchased the the New XI operating system from Comcast. I have been able to watch Live Sports by using the HDMI connection between the Laptop and the TV. My plan was to connect the Laptop to the Stereo Receiver to get better sound.
I keep all my music and movies on a thumb drive and play it on the Laptop. (saves a lot of space).

In regards to the speaker installation I was thinking of, 4 in the cockpit and 4 in the Saloon. I am hoping the speakers all share the same ground, and I could put a 3 way switch in the grounding circuit. Like I did, back in the day, for front and rear speakers in my 66 Rambler.

12-volt stereos do not have common grounds for the speakers anymore.

Don't you just love new technology! Well then, using the Fade method is sounding better all the time. Boy, I don't know if I can handle all these Cadillac problems. Thnaks for the input.
