Has anyone found an easy to deploy sun shade for use while anchoring and at the dock? I'm interested in providing shade to the cockpit.

We use a Costco umbrella

less than $10, move it around as the sun goes around, use bungee cords and velcro strips on binnacle and dodger frame. It's the Right Price solution for us.

ground cloth

I sometimes use a rip stop nylon ground cloth I picked up at REI. Two pieces of 1/2" PVC (cut to length) four small "S" hooks, four small lines to tie it off. Folds up and stows into a small stuff sack, the poles stow easily as well. The ground cloth already has brass grommets installed. Best I remember they have three sizes. Blue/green in color.

What's your budget?

We had a bimini made. It is basicall three hoops of stainless tubing, with one's ends attached to the coaming and hte other two to the first. There's a Sunbrella canopy with a window to see the mainsail through, and zip cover for htat (for shade. There's also a clear connector to the dodger which acts as a windshield in the rain. I guess the bimini was about $1500, maybe a bit less.
