I have a remote mic in the cockpit, but the chord is shot. Can I just replace the chord or do I have to buy the mic too? And where would I find such an animal?

Butch, that all depends on the model. Most of the RAMs that I know of are watertight and opening them up to replace the cord could affect the seal. My Standard Horizon RAM has a bad connection in the plug(opposite the mic end) that I will open up and resolder.

A local radio or electronics repair shop should be able to handle that one if you aren't adept at soldering..

It's probably at the plug end if its a Standard Horizon and thats no big deal if your brave enough to handle.....mine was just twisted up so I untwisted it and retightened the clamp and fixed it

butch,

call standard horizons, they have a one cost repair rate. i sent mine in last year and they added a new cord, connectors and a face plate. the cost then was $40. well worth it.

Contact the mic manufacturer and ask for the part and its price. They may suggest the best way to have the repair done.
