My Hunter 310 has no way to lock the cockpit lockers to fend off anyone who wishes to walk away with anything stored there. I have looked into attaching hasps but the locker design is such that a regular stainless hasp is hard to mount. It is very difficult to get to the inside area where you attach the hasp. Has anyone found an easy way to provide owner security with these lockers. Are hasps the only way to do so?

Locker Locks

I have the older (1985) 31 - same issue. Security is only part of it, the lockers need to be secure for knock down / roll over issues too. I'll take a picture tonight and post it tomorrow.

My cockpit lockers...

..have been unlocked and unlatched since I've owned the boat with no problems. My boat came withe swim platform lockers that had internal lines lead forward to the cockpit locker which could be cleated to lock the covers from opening. This same principle could apply to any locker and the lines can be lead into the cabin of the boat.

Think "latches"...

and surf the web. Been going through the same thought process lately trying to secure swim platform hatches on my 35.5. I'll include 2 links here, one in message and one below. What you want to look at are draw latches, compression latches, over center latches, to name a few. What you do NOT want to do is go to West Marine and pay $45+ EACH for Perko latches when you can buy something else direct for under $10-20! Look at <www.eberhard.com/products/latches.html > as well as the southco.com site below, and you will find more "latch" applications than you ever dreamed of. Ain't the web great?

Locker Locking System

Locks are important for safety (knock down / roll over) as well as security. I use the same system on Captains desk etc... inside. I replace hasp with lock when needed. I used stainless fasteners (w/ acorn nuts) and bronze hardware.
