What are you it needing for?

Hi Bryan.
I guess the best answer depends on why you need a cockpit light? I know when I sail at night I want very little or no light to disturb my night vision. Yes I have my Chartplotter and/or radar on, but they are turned way down or night mode. I use a head lamp on longer night passages with a red lens. Chart table has a red lens too.

Good luck. Bob.

we have clamp on led lights that clamp to the taffrail or bimini... they have a flood type beam... we use them for when we are barbqueing/entertaining after dark or whenever we need more lights than the spreader lights will give...

We have two cockpit lights in our cockpit, both factory installed. One is in the arch and lights up the whole cockpit, the other is just above the cockpit table and used when we are dining out there at night. We changed the bulbs over to LEDs some time ago. We leave the cockpit light on if we expect to dinghy back to the boat after dark. It makes it easier and safer to reboard with the dog.

I installed an 18" white/red led strip under the arch. I ran the wires down the arch and into the side of the boat, then up through the pedestal to the wiring to the light in the pedestal. I attached the light to a board, then used the traveler bolts to attach the wood frame to the arch.

Cheapskate idea

We used one of those solar LED path lights ($1.99 at a local hardware store) and replace it every couple of years. It isn’t much light, but will keep you from tripping when it is dark. It is small enough that it won’t bother other boaters next to you. We just drop it into a winch holder.

Our H340 came with a white courtesy light at the forward end of the cockpit table/pedestal. We also have the fiberglass arch, and there were already holes on the underside to provide access to the bolts holding the traveller, but no electrical. I tried the battery powered white puck lights that were held on by velcro and sticky tape, good at anchor for cockpit dining but I wanted red. Wife wanted blue lighting because it looks cool. :)

Ended up with a unique solution:

I use a stern LED navigation light on the Bimini frame. It is U bolted and aimed at the floor. This way it is waterproof, and illuminates the cockpit perfectly. The switch is a toggle switch mounted on the ignition panel. I will be at the boat July 16-20. I'll take a picture or two and post.
