I purchased my H31 last year and need to replace the soft cockpit floor. This was caused by an unrepaired crack by the floor drain. I plan to remove the upper skin, replace the core material and put the skin back in place. Has anyone done this or does anyone have thoughts, information on core material, or comments. Any information would be appreciated.

More Information

The core material is wet and spongy. I plan to remove the pedestal, cut through the outer skin of the fiberglass, remove the old core material, replace the core material and replace the outerskin.

Need help also on floor and tables.

Just bought the Hunter 22 last week and it has none of the wood inside the boat. I have cutout new mahogony for the bulkhead and have started on the table. Not sure what to do with the floor. I also need to make the able for the back of the boat but have only seen one picture of it down. How does the support work for it? Same question for the inside table. Any help is appreciated.

Big Job

To do it right the entire interior must be removed. Tons of difficult and hidden screws. Then you'll find the pieces won't fit out the door. Have fun (or patch the old one)

Not cabin floor

The floor I will be replacing is the exterior floor in the cockpit not inside the cabin.

Soft Cockpit Floor

I have just completed this same job on our 1977 Hunter30, Not too hard, Remove the pedistal set a skill saw blade to a shallow depth and cut aprox: one half inch in from the edge of the flair. Note that there is a lower liner and you do not want to cut outbourd of it.Get a putty knife and remove all soft wood. Replace with new ply, then lay on three layers of glass cloth. Then a layer of filler sand smooth and prime and paint. I also built a one inch round pedistal base so as to elevate all the holes off the floor. Total cost was about $300.00 with lots of materials left over for outher projects.I used all "EastSystems "products, there cheeper and I find just as good Cover up good you will itch!!! Cheers and go for it Bill Olah

Thanks

Bill, Thanks for the information. How long did the entire job take? I have read about reusing the skin you cut off and just bed it in resin and fill and paint the cut line. Did you resuse or just glass and filler? Do you have pictures? I am just trying to get as much information before I get started. Thanks again Gerry

Cockpit Floof Replacement

Hi Gerry, I posted a responce yesterday and I am not sure where it went? Any way,I find it much better not to use the old skin. New glass is not as hard to feather in, as well you do not want any voids. You can locate all holes for the wheel etc. from below using the lower liner. You can e-mail me at bill.olah@sympatico.ca Cheers Bill PS I am in the process of getting high speed(I live in a small village and It has just become available)after which I will be able to send photos.
