Cockpit Floor Hold-Down

Hello All,
My cockpit floor panel is held down with 12 bolts that thread into 12
rubber-cushioned threaded fastenings around the perimeter of the hole.
I'm missing three of these threaded fastenings. I have no idea what
they are called. Is this a readily available type of fastening? Is
there a better replacement type available?

Thanks for any input and help.

They are available - I located them at my local Ace hardware store, but in
US thread sizes, not metric like the originals. I changed the screws to US to
match. I've seen them on the internet in metric sizes, however. They are
called Well Nuts, and are commonly used on motorcycles to mount fairings,
etc. If you're careful when you remove and install these rubber expansion type
nuts, they work well. If you use a power driver with down pressure you'll
tear them every time (I know this!).

There are some stainless quarter-turn aircraft type hold downs being
marketed by the folks that make PSS shaft seals, but the price will send you back to
Ace.

I can recommend the kind Steve B sells. They worked really well for me.
Mountings and screws + instructions.

Good luck

Steve Birch does a replacement kit - I\'ve not seen one, but have heard good reports.

As a budget alternative, I drilled all of the threaded steel insets out of ours, fitted plastic drywall plugs (the grey ones with wings to secure screws into plasterboard walls.) and use countersunk wood screws (size about 1.25 inch tens) to secure the sole. Life expectancy depends on how often you lift the cockpit sole - as our gearbox loses oil, we have to open it probably twice a week and at that renew the plastic plugs about every four months. They\'re not difficult to replace, just tap them straight-through with a hammer and centre punch. Cost wise - a hundred plugs (12.5 renewals) are perhaps £1 in the UK and the eight (get ten for when you drop one) probably cost £1.50.
