DO ALL OF THE DRAINS IN THE COCKPIT OF THE P-26 DRAIN BELOW THE WATERLINE? I HAVE SEVERAL BELOW THE WATERLINE "HOLES" I AM GETTING A LITTLE NERVOUS. TWO FOR THE COCKPIT, ONE FOR THE INTAKE ON THE TOILET, ONE FOR THE INTAKE ON THE DECK WASH, ONE FOR THE DEPTH AND NOW OR SOON TO BE ONE FOR THE PADDLE WHEEL FOR THE BOAT SPEED. SHOULD I RETHINK THE BELOW THE WATER LINE LAYOUT?

Don't you have one for the galley sink?

I don't like to have holes in the bottom of my boat. So I brought the sink drains up above the water line with fiber glass tubes. My cockpit drains run to the transom. My engine cooling water intake is dedicated as is the intake for the head. Seawater intake for the galley sink is the only other hole in the bottom. For deck wash, a bucket with a rope attached serves with a swab.

Drains

Ross, How far up from the waterline do you have your drains on the transom? Do your sink drains go off the port side? PS my wifes uncle lives on the river in Perryville...very nice area.

That is a Pearson 26?

Ross-That is the cockpit of a Pearson 26? Who did all the modifications- the cockpit and transom are totally changed- perhaps for long distance cruising? And I was unaware of anyone putting an inboard in them. What year is the boat. I would be interested to see more photos of the boat if you have them posted anywhere.

No Mike that is a 1968 Islander 30

I made the changes. Didn't intend to miss lead you. Just figured cockpit drains are cockpit drains.

Wealth of Info

Andrew, Check out this site -- http://dan.pfeiffer.net/p26/boat.htm Dan has compiled a great wealth of information on Pearson 26's. As for your question, both of my cockpit drains are below the waterline (non-modified from stock). I also have a head intake and head discharge, and a depth sounder transducer below the waterline. The sink drains into the port cockpit drain, and the manual bilge pump drains into the cockpit on the port side. I have been debating an automatic bilge pump, but have not needed it (I really don't get much water in the bilge - a little rain water, but that's it). I am planning to convert to freshwater flush for the head and possibly remove the head intake and discharge thru-hulls the next time I come out for the winter. I have a holding tank (we can't discharge anyway in the bay). This would also get rid of the Y-valve and extra hoses. Fair Winds! David

My 1972 Pearson 26

has 2 cockpit drains at the forward end on each side of the cockpit floor just aft of the cabin door. There is a fiberglass moulded 12" long by about 2' dia pipe coming up from the hull about 12" off center on each side. Also the same size pipes come down from the cockpit deck. There is a 6" black, what looks like toilet pipe, connecting the two and allowing for movement. The hull fitting pipe rises to about an inch or so or more above the waterline. Mine have never been replaced and seem to be fine. They don't leak a drop. (I better not say that to loud or the spirits might hear!) David
