I need to replace the cockpit drain hoses. Any advice on what hosing to use and how to attach/glue the tubing to the section pieces that camp on to the "T" piece? It is difficult to work down there!

Drain hoses

I ordered the hose directly from Hunter. The hose is PVC. I used PVC cement with stainless steel hose clamps. I removed the port side bulkhead in the quarter birth to more easily access the drain hoses. I placed a treated 4X4 under the drain "T" to keep it from having a sag in it for water to collect and freeze in the winter.

Use reinforced water hose...

...cut to the correct length. Put your DOUBLE clamps on it before taking it below and installing. You will be able to visually inspect the hose periodically if it is water hose. Ensure that it is DOUBLE-clamped (both ends), even if you have shutoff thruhulls.

Additional Information

On my previous post I spoke of PVC cement. I used the cement to glue the hose cuffs to the hose ends. The hose cuffs are not glued to the fiberglass pipe. The hose cuffs each have two stainless steel clamps holding the cuffed hose ends to the fiberglass pipe. I ordered approximately 4 feet of hose and 6 hose cuffs from Hunter Marine to complete the job. I was not able to find hose similiar to the OEM hose except from Hunter.

Thanks

Thanks, That was very helpful! Any particular part number or reference number to use when ordering?

cockpit drain hose out of stock

Well, it turns out that Hunter no longer carries the 1.5 in. MPI hose for the cockpit drain system. So I am thinking about using flexible bilge hose that just clamps over connections without the need for hose cuffs. Think that will be OK?

I think that will be fine.

That will probably work just fine. The real trick for me was getting my body in a position where I could reach the hose connections without needing medical help when done. Good luck.

use spa hose for a hot tub

I had to replace all these this spring. Used "spa Hose" or the extremely thick walled stuff they plumb hot tubs with. Bought it a the local hardware store. The stuff is very durable and is designed for hot water and to be under pressure. Niether of which you will encounter for this use but the hose is substantial. Hose is white and sold by the foot. double stainless clamps on all connections. Worked great for about $20.00. Jim
