Cockpit Drain Seacocks.

Insurance survey time is coming up next spring. The last survey, done
for a previous owner, recommended seacocks on the cockpit drain thru
hulls. This was never done, but on checking with a local reputable
marine surveyor I may need to install them.

Looking at mine I would have to change the thru hulls, as the originals
are fitted to take a hose, not a seacock. Then a flanged ball valve and
a pipe-to-hose nipple could be fitted. New hose would be in order, of
course, and while I'm in there I might as well renew the flanged
fittings through the cockpit wall. Hmmmm ... do I really need to open
this can of worms?

There have been no problems for the last 37 years, and I'm not planning
any off-soundings voyages. What do you Vega owners out there have on
your boats?

I would go to the hardware store and buy a couple of in expensive ball valves, barb fittings and hose clamps. I would cut a small section of hose out and install the valves in line. Bungs tethered in the lazarette that could be pulled into the cockpit if you were just talking seaworthy and not inspection.
