Got a H33, 1980 model with the traveler mounted in the cockpit bridgedeck. I want to buy a set of cushions for the cockpit seats. I'm looking at the CCushions, but am worried that the closed cell foam will be hot and stick to skin in our usually warm climate. Does anyone have any experience with these cushions, or recommendations about other sources or type of cushions for the cockpit?

The vinyl-coated foam cushions sometimes need to be covered by towels in hot, humid weather. The Ameriseam brand has a mesh fabric covering that allows some air ciculation. Works great in hot climates. FYI, you can buy both Ameriseam cushions and BottomSiders (similar to CCushions but with a better finish) and in the Chandlery on this site, all priced and ordered by boat model. ph.

I've got BottomSiders in my cockpit. I think they are the same as CCushions. Mine are white and do require more cleaning, but are great. They are easy to clean, don't absorb about water (wipe 'em off) and are very comfortable. I would highly recommend them. They are custom ordered/cut to the boat's dimensions.

A (truly) unbiased POV on CCushions
When you put CCushions and bottomsiders side by side, you see the following differences: - BS has more of matte finish; CC is very glossy. - BS has a neater-looking edge; CC is kind of rounded off. To my knowledge, the construction is essentially the same. I think BS may be a bit less money these days. All in all, I've never heard anyone express dissatisfaction with either brand.

Jim: We have Bottom Siders. We made terry cloth covers because of our dog put found out we like them too. The nice thing about the BS is that if you are sailing in the rain you can just remove these covers and sit on them with your foul weather gear. When the sun is out and the cushions are hot, put on the covers. The best thing about the closed cell foam (ie: Bottom Siders) is that they do absorb water. I agree with Paul. We also ordered a set of Bottomsiders for our 1990 H-33.5 last spring and are very satisfied with them. We ordered them thru this HOW web site(the HOW Store)and they shipped direct to our house. We got the 5 cushion set to alow removing the helm seat while leaving the 2 corner cushions in place. Jim, I sailed for a year fighting with my crew over who got to sit on the type IV throwable. Finally broke down and purchased the Bottom Siders here on HOW (the service was excellent!) I chose the light grey with navy pinstripe. Yes, they do get hot in the sun. With the bimini up, they are mostly in the shade but can feel a little sticky to bare skin. We usually put a towel down when the temp and humidity are up. After it rains, just a quick wipe with a towel takes care of the standing water giving you a nice dry seat. Now everyone has a soft spot to sit. No more fighting over the throwable. Color me highly satisfied!

As would be expected, our white BS do not get hot. Even in the direct sun. This is probably the main reason we decided on white. Anything non-white will heat up. We ordered the Navy Blue accent striping, but they have color selections. You can also get them without the accent since they are all made to order. It takes about 6 weeks, so plan on that.
