Anyone tried Coca Cola to clean stainless steel. I've heard for many years that coke has cleaning properties for metal. I watched a T.V. show recently by the name of myth-busters. They put coke up against other cleaners and it did quite well!

Never for cleaning, but....

I have used it to get a frozen nut to come loose when no WD-40 or any other similar agent was around. Works pretty good actually!

Diet Coke

A friend of mine who is a mechanic used to pour Diet Coke on the battery terminals to get rid of the corrosion. Imagine what its doing to our stomachs?

you guys are what keep urban legends alive...

Look fellas, there's a whole body of mythology out there about Coca-Cola and you have bought into it hook-line-and-sinker. Maybe some urban myth afficionado can explain it in greater detail but here's the general outline: --Back in the late 19th century the original Coca-Cola formula contained coal tar, phosphoric acid, cocaine, and lots of other interesting stuff. The Gay '90's were the era of medicine shows and snake oil peddlers, so it fit the times. The phosphoric acid is responsible for the myth about being able to drop an iron nail in a bottle of Coke and have it disappear overnight. The cocaine probably accounts for its loyal customer base. The coal tar accounts for the bite and color. But just before WWI Teddy Roosevelt's White House created the FDA to put the snake oil sellers out of business. The phosphoric acid and cocaine, if they were ever really there, disappeared from the secret ingredients. If Coke is cleaning up your metal today it may be because of the carbonated water and elbow grease...*butt

It's the soda

It's the soda water base that cleans the battery terminals. It is the same as using baking soda solution, only not as strong of a mixture.

Hey Rich

I've heard that Elbow Grease now comes in a liquid instead of just the old paste that my Grandfather handed down to me... ;D Next thing I know you are gonna tell me that there is no such thing as left-handed smoke shifters... *yks Regards, -Jim- s/v Forever

The Best Use of Coke

Hope you all agree. The best use of Coke is to mix with Mount Gay Rum and lime. Wishing you all the best.

Mythbusters...

I don't know if any of you have watched this show on the Discovery Channel but they tested Coke and its cleaning abilities a couple of months ago to find out if the myth was true or not. They found that Coke worked GREAT for cleaning chrome and stainless steel. I was really surprised. Later in the show they put a couple of steaks in pans of Coke for 48 hours to see if the acid would disolve the steak. Didn't happen but the Coke definately ate away at the meat. I an going to try it this weekend and see what happens. Brooks
