We paid cash for our boat and went through a marine escrow company. The State refused our title because the PO had a loan that hadn't been cleared to their satisfaction. The escrow company went out of business (but kept our money) in the middle of this. It took a year just to get our title and we removed our CG documentation which wasn't easy. (We only boat in the US and Canada anyway.) We never did see the escrow money.
