What I find related to this is they will call attention to a hazard or boat in distress and just rapid fire read the lat long. It would be most helpful if they added "....approximately 2 miles southwest of Perkins Point...", or some land reference.
This is my #1 complaint about the CG as well... I cannot count the number of times where they report a person in the water or a vessel taking on water and ask people to assist if possible, and give nothing more than then coord's. Around here we can routinely hear CG transmissions from as far south west as Fire Island NY, all the way to Watch Hill RI. i.e. I hear transmissions that could be talking about someone needing assistance only 10 min sail from me or a 10 hour sail, and have no way to easily tell if they don't give some meaningful land reference point... When they do give a reference it's usually the name of some tiny beach that most boaters will never know about (little hint to the CG, most boaters know island and harbor names far better than beach names, not to mention most beach names are NOT even on the charts!).
