Yes

I have a 1996 H29.5, which I purchased in 2000. The previous owner had the boat on Puget Sound and had it documented so she could charter it. When we bought the boat, we kept it documented even though we moved it to Lake Pend Oreille in North Idaho.

I had to do the research last year

I bought a 1992 30T Hunter last fall and had to do the research on how to get it redocumented as the new owner. It is a little different if the boat has never been documented before. It took time but I got all the info on line and for a government site it is surprisingly user friendly: http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-m/vdoc/nvdc.htm http://www.seasurplus.com/home55.htm With both these sites everything should be self explanitory. The time it took from applying to receiving the documentation was approximately 3months.

29.5 documentation

Yes! My 29.5 was documented by her first owner and then redocumented by me

Documented since birth

You should have no problems documenting your vessel just because its a 29.5.

It's easy

I recently documented a Hunter 30. Visit the USCG website. Give the Documentation Center in West Virginia a call. They could not have been more helpful or friendly. There is no need to go through a third party. Be sure to check out the USCG link in Bob's post. Jim

I documented my Hunter 28

The only good thing is you don't have to stick the state registration numbers on our boat. You still need to put the yearly state sticker on your boat. Many people put it on the mast. Your boat needs to have the boat name on the port and starboard side and the hailing port on the back. If you visit foreign ports it offers some extra protection, but if there is a war the government can confiscate your boat. All and all its not worth the trouble.
