Those of you with CG documented vessels: where did you mount the documentation board? Our boat was documented when we bought her, and we didn't see any reason to switch to state registration. The PO never installed the required board, so it's time to do that.

Doesn't have to be on a board. Regs state that the number must be permanently marked so that alteration or removal would be evident. They use the term "on the main beam", but that goes back to wooden ship times. We don't have main beams anymore. A popular place is on a board mounted on the forward cabin bulkhead over the vee berth, but that doesn't really meet the reg because somebody could replace the board with one with a different number. Alteration would not be evident. You can put it anywhere you want, hidden in the bilge or engine room, or on display in the cabin. It just needs to be permanent, like carved or engraved into a permanent part. Most people don't do that though.
On the commercial boats I run, they're welded into a steel frame in the engine room.

Put it some where on your Inner hull so it has to be painted over or distroyed to get rid of it it has to be permanently mounted

Ours in on the side of the hull in the cockpit lazarette, block numbers with a clear epoxy coating over them.

I used stick-on letters on the hull, then several layers of epoxy.

Thanks. I understand the regulations, and already bought a board (http://documentationboards.com/). Just hoping to hear where other folks put theirs. I don't think we want it on display, it's not that pretty! Inside one of the lockers seems like a good place.

We bought a board for display in the main cabin. The number is also stenciled on the overhead of the aft cabin.

Hunter put mine in the bilge area but I have a keel stub so the bilge is 2.5 feet deeper than the hull.

Mine is in the SB settee storage area, in decals with epoxy on top. My old boat had a wood plaque epoxied in the same area.
