I just bought a 1986 Catalina 36 and it came with a CNG stove. Can these be converted to propane or does the stove need replacing? Where does one even get CNG? any advise? Bob

I believe CNG is more available outside the US. I don't really know the pros & cons but I'd call a marine systems pro (check out the bulletin boards at West Marine, your marina, etc) & consult with him/her. LaDonna

The system can be converted to propane, but most people go the other way .(convert to CNG) The biggest reason given to convert is safety.. propane is heavier than air and will collect in the low points of your boat (like the bilge)..Cng will disperse in the air brcause it is lighter than air.. They now have CNG fleets like cabs, buses and police cars. It should be easy to get filled and is fairly cheap.. you could call you gas company, they now have pumps to fill your car at home and billed through your gas meter at the house. I would keep what you have.. but if you do convert let me know what you want for your CNG tank and accessories. Mike WD9EOU C-38 s/v Chute the Breeze Michigan City, IN mosilver@netnitco.net

I have CNG on my 27 Catalina and have not had any problems getting the gas. I live in the NY area and many of the full service marinas have it. Here it is a matter of switching bottles - empty for lfull I would leave tthe system as it is - it is also a lot safer Good luck

keep it

MY CAT 30 CAME WITH CNG. CALL THE MANUFACTURE OF THE SYSTEM THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE PLACES YOU CAN EXCHANGE THE TANKS IN YOU AREA. COST FOR EXCHANGE IS AROUND $35.00. I AGREE IT IS THE BEST AND SAFEST WAY TO GO
