I have a 91 H35.5 and need to find location for a propane locker. Has anyone done the conversion that could offer suggestions.

I need to find a suitable place for the tank. Any suggestions?

I had a 35.5 and converted CNG to Propane. We placed a locker inside the starboard cockpit locker which had a flexible hose that went to the stern and attached to a small fitting that exited the boat. This allowed for any potential leak. This locker (or fiberglass box) was attached in the cockpit locker but could be moved (I forgot how we did this) so that two (2) small propane tanks could fit side by side (inboard and outboard).
At this point my memory is vague. A connection to the tank fitting went forward through the bulkhead and to a device that turned the tank on and off and I believe was also a propane sniffer. From this device it went to the stove. I remember we had to turn this on before we could use the stove. The connecting hose from this on/off device had a longish loop so that the stove could gimbal. I remember soaping the lines once a year when turned on to check for leaks.
Unfortunately that was four Hunters back so details are lacking.
I recommend contacting Sure Marine in Seattle as they were (and are) propane specialist and they were the ones who advised me at the time.

Les are you referring to the large bench cockpit locker or the smaller one at the helm

When I changed the boat over to propane from CNG, I made my own locker for the propane tanks (2x10 lbs) I made the locker from Corecel foam and covered it in Fiberglas cloth, equipped it with a shutoff and regulator and plumbed it to the stove and fireplace with rubber hose through the stern and interior bulkheads with self-sealing grommets. I installed an always active propane sniffer as well.
I hung the locker from the stern rail with velcro straps attached to the rear of the locker and ran a hose along the stern to allow for any gas that may leak into the locker to be discharged overboard.
It took a bit of time to put the locker together but it works well and is a hell of a lot cheaper than purchasing a locker to fabricating one to fit into a lazerette in the cockpit or one of the stern lockers. You also don't loose the locker space.

I'm referring to the starboard cockpit seat locker--right next to the companionway. If I remember correctly it was a stardard box to hold 2 small porpane tanks. I had to get hose for the exscap flow and a hose to go into the main cabin. I see now that they have a gromment for hoses--I don't remember having that at the time.
The box was broadside in the locker.

Heh, Breeze what have you already got mounted on the rail that you couldn't fit the propane locker. Port side on our boat we have a MOB pole and a life ring mounted on the far corner and a Magma BBQ mounted on the top rail, the starboard side holds our lifesling, the two (2) GPS antennas and the mount for our dinghy outboard. I mounted the LPG locker below the BBQ and still had clearance for the portside swim platform locker to open to the max. I can send you a pix of the locker in a few days if you can wait.
Breeze, I'll get the pictures to you as soon as I can as well as the measurements of the locker and the way I did the construction.
You need to contact Bill Roosa and ask him about his device that allows him to fill his CNG tanks at any location that has pumps for vehicles that use CNG. By far the safest and least expensive way of using any type of gas for cooking.
