One of the gals in our YC has a C36 with an CNG stove she was going to replace with a LPG. She said the conversion was too expensive. I think it is a Force 10. Anyway, I couldn't find anything in the archives, so if you have done this, can you pass on to me two things: the ball-park cost of converting the stove itself, and the cost of the related gear like electrical switch, sniffer, hose, tanks and enclosure. I think she is confusing the total cost against the stove itself. (She loves the stove that is in it and I think she said it was a special order. Thanks in advance. Rick D.

Depends

I am looking on doing the same thing on our stove. If the CNG stove is to old you will need a new stove. He said that my 91 stove should be ok. The price was about $400 to covert the store. Add new line at $3 a foot. Not sure on the price of the tanks.

It adds up. West Marine sells a locker/tank combination (w/solenoid)by Seaward for about $290. Add another $200-$250 for the alarm/sniffer/control plus hose, etc. and you're definitely over $500 not counting the conversion of the stove itself. I'd think the stove conversion itself would be relatively inexpensive since, as I understand it, it primarily involves changing the jets in the burners. As long as CNG is reasonably available in your area, I don't think the LPG conversion is worth the $. In any case CNG is somewhat safer.
