I am just looking for some CNG and was hoping to leave the LPG topic to other threads; but since you brought it up...

If you google "propane boat explosion" and look at the pictures you will see why I would change to electric cooking before installing propane on my boat. Its fine for RVs where a heavier-than-air propane leak will pour out onto the road. Not a good idea where the only place for it to flow is into the bilge to accumulate and wait for the next spark. Sure, there are safety devices, but how much did you pay for that solenoid? The manufacturer guarantees it will work perfectly ... for the next 90 days. How many people regularly test the safety devices?

Just one boater's opinion.

Out of the literally millions of boats out there with propane, how many actually blow up each year? The number is absolutely infinitesimal, I'm sure. Really, I wouldn't even consider electric these days and when we can afford it, we are going to get rid of ours. Starting a generator or inverter just for a cup of coffee is such a bother, let alone when the gene is on the fritz.
There really is no reason not to use propane these days.

I'll bet more boats burn up due to faulty shore power electrical connections than propane explosions.

The solenoids are designed to fail closed, based on my experience, that is how they fail.

It is very easy to check your boat LPG system. 1. With fittings connected, open you gas tank valve, 2) Turn on your gas solenoid, 3) confirm flow to your appliances, then turn them off, 4) note solenoid valve gas pressure gauge reading, 4) turn off solenoid breaker, 5) close tank valve and check gauge pressure reading over the course of 24 hours. If gas pressure reading remains steady your solenoid is doing it's job.

Check gas line and fittings: After 24 hours turn on the solenoid and observe gas pressure reading, leave appliance in off position, observe solenoid gauge reading. If gauge pressure remains constant your pipe and gas fittings are tight.
