I have just purchased a 1985 C30, it has a compressed natural gas stove with an oven. The oven will not light, I have cleaned the orafice but the pilot will not reach out to the thermocoupler unless: I hold the knob just right, then it still doen't quite reach enough to light. When I release the knob the pilot goes down to just a tiny flame,I think I need to remove and clean the oven control knob but I don't have manual for the "Gas Systems Inc." stove. Can anyone help? Thanks Dean

Same thing

Same EXACT thing happened on my 1984 model C36 with the Gas Systems CNG stove. A call to Seaward at (562) 699-7997 solved my problem for a mere $99.50 plus shipping. Ask for “Chico @ x218”. After much cleaning, they said all I needed was a new thermostat PN:70401. I installed that baby and it immediately worked like a charm. Russ S/V Four Sail C36, #206 Kemah, Texas

thanks russ i will try it

Thanks Russ, Did your pilot and the knob really do the exact same thing? If so I will be very happy with your help!! Dean = blowinganddrifting@yahoo.com

Yes

It sounds like the exact same thing. It would light just fine with a small flame, turn knob to higher temp and the flame would stay the same and never contact the thermocouple. If I would deflect the knob (vs. turn) the flame would get bigger but still not big enough to contact the thermocouple. When I described it to Seaward folks, they immediately said it sounded like a classic thermostat failure. Good luck - Russ

Ditto with mine

I concur. I had the same problem and resolved it with the same $100 solution from seaward. It has worked as advertised now for three years.

CNG OVEN

Dean; I'd suggest you convert your system to propane. Those CNG tanks are a pain in the stern; heavy, bulky, awkward, hard to find out of your home waters, and it doesn't last as long. Modern propane systems are very safe.
