That's good advice Wayne. I've never had a slip but I've maneuvered my boat in between the docks at our YC that resemble slips and I'm always worried that I'm going bang into something going in or trying to get out. Probably the hardest thing is trying to gauge the wind and the current but more so the wind strength and direction. I always check the flag on the pole next to the club house or my windex on the mast. It's like anything else though. The more you do it, the better you get at it.
Next year our club docks are going to be rented slips for our members and I expect that I won't be using them occasionally on weekends as I have done in the past. Our other docks have a 20 minute tie up time which is OK with me. Slips are nice but I still prefer a mooring.
