Cleating the anchor rode

I think Rocna or Manson or one of the new anchor companies came out with a new SS chain grabber that looks like it should hold the snubber to the chain very well. I saw a mag article that suggest unwinding a three-strand rode a couple feet, then weave it out flat (if that makes it clear?). the flat-out three strads were said to put more line against the chain than the normal three-strand. Works for me so far.

Tom...how do you attach your snubbers to the chain? I am new to cruising, looking for a simple/clean way to accomplish that...we just took delivery of a 2005 H33, and are looking forward to our first overnighter as the weather improves...

I attach the snubbers to the chain with a shackle. I've tried the various hooks that I've seen advertised for use on snubbers, but they always fall off when the rode goes slack. I also run the snubbers over the anchor roller, and then to the chain. This cuts down on the C310's tendency to swing at anchor. If I need to haul the anchor in a hurry, the shackle and snubbers ride up and over the roller with no problem.

Check out Mantus anchor hook with the plastic safety flipper and really like it and when I had tried 2 different types of hooks on the snubber double lines seem to slip off often, but the Mantus hook with plastic flipper really works great and not real prices at all.
I also love my Mantus anchor that got at Miami sailboat show 2 years ago at a great show price and tee shirts and bags and they were great people at the Mantus booth, check out the hook on their web site and I made up my own line and shackle.

I use a SS chain hook (5/16") attached to 25' of 5/8" nylon 3-strand (eye splice over thimble w/ anchor shackle to the eye of the hook). When I have enough chain veered the "snubber" is hooked on and let out with a bit more chain over the roller and down to about the surface of the water. The snubber bitter end (i.e., the 3-strand) is stopped to a deck cleat via a fair lead (snatch block) at a pad eye amidships and just aft of the anchor locker. So, there's only a single line snubbing the chain. It does rarely fall off but not when under load.

We seem to have gotten way off track from the original question which was about cleating the anchor rode to the cleat that is in the anchor locker.

I believe that cleat is for lunch stops and the like. If the boat is to be left for sometime on anchor some type of bridle with strain relief should be used.

That happens sometimes when the OP disappears from the discussion, having not checked in again w/ a comment since the initial posting of March 2.:solame: Maybe you'd like to take over for him? On second thought, maybe you are him--same boat, same home port but different handle?
