I signed the papers today to sell the business I started in 1986, a quarter of a century ago. That done, I went over to meet with my boss at my other job and review applications for my replacement as Harbormaster. Previously, I had gotten up early and finished installing the upper shroud chainplates which restores Strider finally to full structural integrity. It was a good day.

I’m particularly pleased about the business sale. Even though my name will be disappearing, the buyer will be further developing and marketing my research vessel designs more aggressively and with far more resources than I can muster at this point. I am becoming a consultant to them and so have the opportunity to be involved with projects that interest me without having to do the heavy lifting.

One aspect of this arrangement is that my planned cruising in Canada this summer could be interrupted at any moment by an email or phone call. I might just find a place to leave the boat and fly back for some meetings. If a larger project comes up I might swing the bow around and set a course for the Cape Cod Canal. Their office is in a marina so I can just dock and live on the boat for the duration.

If I should end up in Long Island Sound instead of Nova Scotia for some part of this summer, I won’t consider it a change of plans at all. As far as I’m concerned, from here on out, it’s all cruising.

Congratulations! I've sold a few businesses over the years (although none that I've owned for 25 years!) and it's a unique, but pleasant feeling having done so...

If you do end up in LIS at any point, for any reason, hit me up as I would love to hoist a beer or 3 with you (my treat even).

Hey Rodger from a fellow Endeavour 32 criuiser. We sold and got rid of everything that did not fit on the boat 6 months ago. Our Endeavour comes from Maine and was in great shape, but I have stayed busy. Latest project is new ports.

Good luck with everything Hope the trip works out.

Hi Roger,
Sounds like a real sweet deal, you must have had Strider on the hard in my lucky spot. I used your idea to epoxy backplates to my stern cleats, pictures below. Have you launched yet? We are puffing out the boat to get it ready to sell so I haven't had time to stop by. We'll be keeping an eye out for you.

No, I might well be the last boat that goes in the water this year. I've got a lot going on in June and want to give the inside the rail cosmetics some serious attention. It's never going to be easier to work on the boat than right now so, even if I don't get in until July, I'm not going to worry about it.
