I recently purchased a Catalina 30 which is in great need of a wash and wax. Anyone have any ideas to remove built up dirt and minor stains? Thanks in advance!

Island Girl?

Many have used this. Some love it, some hate it. Others (like me) have used the PoliGlo system. Again some love it, some hate it. I do know that PoliGlo is way easier to use than wax. Most of the disparigaging remarks seem to come from places with a LOT OF SUN. Since the sun doesn't shine in Michigan between about October and June, I can't really comment. However both PoliGlo and Island Girl are possible alternatives to wax for you to consider (and both (at least the PoilGlo) havs (has) a cleaner that will remove the gunk and oxidation that you are complaining about. A lot depends on...

... the condition of the hull and what needs to come off. That said, I've had good luck using "On and Off" to get some waterline scum and hard growth off. West Marine's "Fiberglass Cleaner" also is a good product to remove rust stains. As with most of these products, they contain forms of acid and so you need to read and follow the directions carefully.

The hull is the topsides!!!

he's obviously not going to clean and wax below the waterline. Topsides is the portion from the waterline to the gunwale or toe rail.

Disregard previous message

it seems the poster deleted his message about whether it was the hull or topsides Brett was referring to.
