My bimini is covered with bird poop. Can sunbrella be washed in a washing machine or is this a "hand-n-knees" scrub brush job?

Machine washing is fine!

Ted: I would recommend that you use a hose and soft brush to clean off the spots before you put it in the washing machine. Rather than explaining the ins/outs of the process, you can go directly to the Sunbrella site for washing directions. http://www.sunbrella.com/usa/ Look at their 'Questions' section on the left hand side of the site. There are washing instructions there. When you are done washing, let it dry and spray with some "303" protectant that is made for Sunbrella.

Bimini Washing

Ted, I use my power washer with soap and spread the bimini out on a concrete pad. Once both sides have been cleaned, I spread it over some saw horses to dry. Then I rewaterproof it before putting it back on the boat. I do this ever winter.

bimini washing

I wash my Sunbrella items, however it makes them soft and limp. They have to be treated to make them water repellant.

What do you "treat" Sunbrella with?

Do you use Scotch Guard, or something more specific? John Richard s/v Jack's Place

John R, 303 makes a protectant specifically.....

for this purpose. You can purchase it at any of the Marine outlets. I think that it runs about $6-8/can.
