Q:How do I clean my bimini top?

A:Wash bimini top with mild soap or detergent. Shake out dusty bimini skin or use a garden hose to rinse dirt off. Use compressed air for stubborn dirt. DO NOT use a scrub brush. DO NOT put into the washer or dryer. DO NOT use bleach or harsh astringents. DO NOT USE CHEMICALS OF ANY KIND. Line dry.

The underside of my top has large areas of mottled brown that is growing. Only on the underside, nothing on the top. I guess it is mildew or mold or something? It has no body to it, just a multicolored stain that is growing. I don't think it is rust. The frame is aluminum, and it stays in a boot with a plastic zipper when not in use. So far I've rinsed it, no change. . .I washed an area with boat soap, no effect. . .I even used a diluted solution of bleach with a brush even though it says not too, didn't do anything.

Anyone out there with a similar problem that has figured out how to deal with it?

Thanks!

Take it to the car wash and lay flat on pavement. This will remove more that most people think. Do not hold wand in one spot as it will actually fray some fabric. I wash sails and more there and have great results.

Is it Sunbrella?

IF it is go to the Sunbrella site for cleaning instruction. They recommend something like Ivory soap in a washing machine.

It is "Hot Shot" 100% dyed acrylic or something. . .A bit thinner than Sunbrella. . .

At the carwash, with a power washer?

I pressuse wash lots of boat stuff at the carwash. The secret is not to get the wand too close to the fabric. I wash ropes and lines that have become dirty with great results. I pre-treat grease or oil spots with spot remover and lay flat on the pavement and blast away. The fabric does not get wrinkled up and folded which is how it gets damaged in a washer.
