Can anybody suggest a cleaner for a marine stainless steel Bar-B-Q? I have tried a variety of cleaners with no luck. Can you use oven cleaner? Ken

Hi Ken, I've had good results using ...

Bar Keepers Friend cleanser from your local grocery store. Use gloves because it is pretty caustic. I suppose you could use oven cleaner on the grates. Terry

Whatever you do, don't put it in.......

a self-cleaning oven. The stainless will turn a blue from the high heat. The blue cannot be removed as far as I know. Please don't ask me how I know this.

Ken,

I second Terry's advice about "Bar Keepers Friend". He's right on, as usual. Not only does it do a good job of cleaning up a SS grill; but it does a nice job on all your SS. IMHO, its works as well or better on stanchions, and all other SS deck hardware, as any of the products sold at the boat stores that literally cost 10x more.

Bar Keepers is great!!

It's called stainless steel because it stains less.... otherwise it would be stainproof steel, LOL Bar Keepers is great stuff for all stainless and is also safe on painted and porcelain surfaces. I always find it a good excuse to visit Williams & Sanoma (they all stock it.) It does clean-up the grill and also my Force 10 propane furnace after a long winter.
