The 15 year old Yanmar in my H335 still looks like new but owing to small oil leaks from doing oil checks/changes and after bleeding fuel lines I sometimes get odours from it. I would like to remove the oil based odour causing liquids and leave my engine smelling fresh but I dont want to have it rust either. I am considering spraying the engine down with some type of degreaser then spraying it again with WD40. Any thoughts???

soap and water

you can use soap and water to clean the engine after all they "steam clean' engines all the time just becareful not to get any soap or water into the air filter/air intake. other then that wash it down and dry it off. run it to heat it up. Also be careful not to get the alternator and starter wet. You can even use a spray bottle type cleaner and fresh water rinse. A degrease will remove oil, fuel, grease etc but most likely will leave a oder also (as was suggested with wd40) you will most likely have to wash off the degreaser also.Any way don't be afraid of a little soap and water just be careful where you spray !
