Vann:Assuming your are talking about a Hypalon dink. The HOW store sells some stuff from Island Girl that will help clean the fabric. Check it out. It is the pick cleanser. Very good at removing the oxidation from the fabric. If you are trying to clean the crap off the bottom I would try several different cleaners unit something works. Be careful if your inflatable is made of PVC, these things get gummy and I don't think anything will fix that.
I've found that Simple Green, along with a bit of gentle scrubbing with a rag, seems to be the best product I've found so far to clean my Hypalon dingy.MC
Used Castrol cleaner last year on my PVC Quicksilver, worked great. Castrol cleaner is sold in automotive stores, can be used as an engine degreaser, is strong stuff, but biodegradable.Used it full strength, sprayed on, followed with a nylon scrubbie.Jkhn K
Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) The dealer that I bought my Hypalon RIB from said this is what to use. I used it many times and it works great. DO NOT use it on PVC inflatables. It's very similar to Acetone and will make the PVC inflatables "Sticky" If you can't get the inflatable clean with the cleansers mentioned already, give this stuff a try.Mark Johnson
MEK is some very nasty stuff. We used to use it for maintenance on aircraft and it's use has been curtailed dramatically. It is a carcinogen causes birth defects and all sorts of nasty stuff. Using it one in a while to clean your dinghy in a well ventilated area won't kill you but do be careful with it. Now that I scared everyone I will attest to the fact that the stuff works great it cleans stuff that nothing else will touch. If I had to scrub a little harder with a less toxic substance I would skip the MEK and use the less harmful cleaner. Can you even get the stuff anywhere?
...on the bottom shelf at West Marine but you can't get them to mail you the stuff. We used MEK for nearly everything in the Navy; maybe that's why I'm so screwed up.
I just wanted everyone to be aware of this stuffs potential problems. I have to admit when it is around I still use it but I would not buy any if I could do without it.
Triclouroethnoflorene, this stuff will take off things that even MEK won't touch. But if you think the MEK has potential problems this stuff will really curl your toes.
